What is behind the American movie?

——Reflections on The Hunger Games

\"The Hunger Games\" series of films are adapted from \"The Hunger Games\" series of novels, which were written by American writer Suzanne Collins. Recently, the second film,The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, is released. In the first week, the box office has reached an amazing achievement by $161million. It can completely prove the influence of this film in America.

So far I have only watched the first section of the series of films. Therefore,I would love to take this film as the breakthrough point, to talk about my views on American film, culture, politics and society.

The background of this story happened in a fictitious world. Among this environment, the media, or the rulers created a cruel game, they even formulated a set of rules of it. Those people who at the bottom were forced to accept the rules paying tribute. In this world, “Equality before Opportunity” is a lie. Cutting one another's throats is to satisfy the rulers, just like the ancient Colosseum.

In the film, the actors' dressing is the best satire. The leading character Katniss representes the oppressed, dressed in plain clothes, whcih close to the people live in reality. Meanwhile, the capital people dressed very funny, with a strange hairstyle, looks foolish and ridiculous. However, in this group of people’s eyes, the only hobby is watching this live show. Life and death have been ignored, enjoying the killing process is the key.

As for the the survival experience in jungle of the actress Katniss, it naturally became the focus. Among all the person to tribute, there are good and bad. Therefore, the bad formed a gang, at the beginning of the game they killed all the rest. While the good is the hero Katniss and Peeta, then is the little girl, who was shot dead.

However, during this killing game, how should we define a standard between good and bad ? In the eyes of the audience, we usually regard the murderer as the bad guys. But, killing others to survive became the law of the jungle, if you are the one of those 12 people, what would you do? This cruel survival game reminds me of the USA political strategy. Maybe it’s not appropriate, but the international diplomatic politics is also a cruel game. Just imagine, which role during the game is for the USA?

For a movies which attracted a large number of young American people, too much critical opinion is not reasonable. After all, the actress who was born in 1990,shows good performance in the film, which in itself is worthy to be praised.

Unlike those American heros who have long embodied the national character with their reserves of hope, innocence and optimism, Katniss springs from someplace else, a place in which a new American Hero, maked on her way to a new world.

The film continues the American heroism style, but the difference is, the hero turned into a female. For some fans of the three novels, the screen version will be disappointing more or less, especially for those keeping inventory of the details, characters, grim thoughts and cynicism that have gone missing. What invests Katniss with such exciting promise is that she also doesn’t need saving, even if she’s at an age when most girls are trembling with fear to cry while waiting to be saved. Katniss rescues herself with wisdom, courage and aim, a combination that makes her a American hero.

In the film, the old president had said a word: \"Hope, is the only thing which is more powerful than fear. A little hope is fine, too much hope is a dangerous thing.\"

In the view of the conspiracy theory , it hints Obama or USA politics. One of Obama's campaign slogan is HOPE. It is said, Obama is just a small hope which the ruling group put out, in order to keep a way of exploiting the people. When people have hope (maybe Wall Street motion), the ruling class is dangerous.

As for me, such a judgement seems too arbitrary, but we can’t deny that The Hunger Game is a film which has a very strong political meanings.

If you just take it as a commercial production, you would miss too much.

The Hunger Games, rather, it is a political game. In our society, we are also like the tributes. In fact, the masses’ spirit is poor, the situationof the poor material is caused by the politicians. When you realize that, what could you do? However, because of the human nature, few of us are willing to admit it.

I have read many reviews of the movie, they all mentioned the original novels. I think it also should be a book with some political allegory properties. Most people will be aware of the grand scene, it is not only to catch your eyes, but also hint you something that even exist in real world.

Those urban people who live a comfortably life, consider watching every district’s tribute to fight and kill each other as an entertainment programme, and called for peace banner.

Perhaps my imagination is inappropriate, I was thinking of Nazi germany.

Some of the political rules should not only be familiar with by those politicians, ordinary people should also know the rules of the game. But in a totalitarian state,

even some relatively democratic country (certainly no absolute democracy), politicians just more or less hope ordinary people don’t understand the rules of the game. So that you can easily be used, so you can easily be made satisfied. What’s worse, you would fight with others under politicians’ control. This situation may be happening all over the world, sadly, we didn't even find this point.

All those “thinkers”, please don't stop to think. A little thinking, this world has a little hope.

Because of the \"game\
