My Old School and My New School

Hi there! My name is Timmy and I'm 10 years old. I just started at a brand new school this year and I want to tell you all about the differences between my old school and my new one. Get ready for an exciting tale of two very different places! My Old School

I went to Oakdale Elementary from kindergarten all the way up to 4th grade. Oakdale was a pretty small school with only about 300 kids total. The building itself was really old - it was built way back in the 1950s! But it had kind of a cozy, friendly feeling to it.

The classrooms were tiny with old wooden desks that were kind of beat up. The floors creaked as you walked down the halls. At recess, we had a field out back to run around on, but the playground equipment was pretty basic - just some swings, a slide, and a merry-go-round.

One really cool thing about Oakdale was the big oak tree right in the front yard. It had to be over 100 years old! We used to love climbing up in its branches and sitting in the shade reading books. The tree was kind of like the school mascot. My favorite school memory from Oakdale was when we did our annual third grade camping trip. We all got to go spend three days and two nights at a camp ground in the mountains. We went on hikes, learned about nature, caught frogs in the stream, and made s'mores over the campfire. It was an awesome adventure!

The teachers at Oakdale were all really nice. My favorite was Mrs. Johnson, my 2nd grade teacher. She wore bright, colorful dresses every day and gave us students a sticker whenever we worked hard. By the end of the year, our notebooks were completely covered in stickers!

Overall, Oakdale was a great little school with a very warm, homey feeling to it. It's too bad they had to shut it down after I left because the building was just getting too old and run-down. But I'll always have wonderful memories of my time there. My New School

After Oakdale closed down, I had to transfer to a brand new school called Willow Creek Academy for 5th grade. Let me tell you, Willow Creek could not be more different from my old school! It's huge, modern, and high-tech.

Willow Creek has over 1,000 students, which seems massive compared to little Oakdale. The building itself is gigantic, with three full floors and two wings. Everything is brand spanking new since the school just opened last year.

Instead of rickety old desks, we have these super fancy desks that are actually small tables that can swivel all around. They even have a spot to plug in and charge up our iPads that the school gave to each student to use!

Speaking of technology, every classroom has a huge interactive whiteboard instead of a chalkboard. Our teachers use it for multimedia lessons with videos, graphics, and animations. It's so high-tech and makes learning way more fun and engaging than just reading from textbooks.

Willow Creek has other amazing facilities that Oakdale could never dream of. We have a massive gymnasium that has a rock climbing wall, an indoor running track, and even a

dance/aerobics room. There's also a state-of-the-art computer

lab, a ceramics and art studio, and a brand new library filled with thousands of books and cozy reading nooks.

Probably the most incredible thing about Willow Creek is the science wing. It has three huge labs for learning about biology, chemistry, and physics. The labs are stocked with all sorts of high-tech equipment like 3D printers, robotics kits, digital microscopes, and more. We even get to go on field trips to science museums and universities!

At recess, Willow Creek has some of the coolest playground equipment I've ever seen. There's a giant climbing structure with plenty of platforms, tunnels, bridges and slides all woven together. We also have basketball courts, tetherball, four-square, and a huge field for playing soccer, football or just running around.

The teachers at Willow Creek are all really smart and seem to know everything about their subjects. A lot of them have advanced degrees and came from really prestigious colleges and universities. Their lessons can be challenging, but they make learning exciting with all the technology and hands-on projects they have us do.

Of course, with such a big new school, there are some downsides too. The sheer size of Willow Creek can be

overwhelming at times with so many students to keep track of. The rules also seem a lot stricter than at my old school, with more emphasis on test scores and student performance. Another thing is that because everything is so new and modern, Willow Creek doesn't really have the same cozy, tight-knit feeling that Oakdale had. With kids coming from all over the district, it can be harder to get to know everyone compared to when we were all from the same neighborhood. But those are small prices to pay for getting such an amazing education at a top-notch school like Willow Creek Academy. While I'll always look back fondly on my time at Oakdale Elementary, I feel very lucky to be able to experience all the wonderful advantages of a new, high-tech school. Who knows what opportunities and adventures await me here over the next few years!

My School Life So Far

Hi there! My name is Jamie and I'm nine years old. I just started fourth grade at a new school this year, so I thought I'd tell you all about the schools I've been to. Going to a different school is a big change, but I'm really enjoying my new place! My First School

I went to Maple Tree Elementary from kindergarten through third grade. It was a pretty small school with only about 300 students. The building was kind of old, but I liked how it felt cozy and familiar. All the teachers and staff knew every kid's name. My favorite part of Maple Tree was the huge playground. It had so much fun stuff - swings, slides, monkey bars, and even a little rock climbing wall! During recess, I always played on the big jungle gym with my best friends Emma and Lucas. We'd race each other to the top and then take turns being the queen of the castle. Other times, we'd gather tons of kids and play epic games of freeze tag or kickball.

I have really fond memories of the annual fun fair too. My mom would volunteer and run the face painting booth. She's an amazing artist and could transform you into a cat, superhero, you name it! The fair also had carnival games, a dunk tank, food trucks, and even a pedal go-kart track. One year, I was finally tall enough for the bouncy obstacle course - it was a maze of inflatable obstacles to jump, crawl, and bounce through. So much fun!

My class sizes at Maple Tree were pretty small, around 20 kids. This was nice because our teachers could give us more individual attention. My third grade teacher, Mrs. Robinson, was my favorite. She was so caring and made learning feel like a grand adventure. Instead of just reading from textbooks, she had us act out stories and do hands-on projects and experiments. For our unit on rivers, she even brought in tubs of water and molding clay so we could build model rivers complete with weather systems like hurricanes. It was awesome! Making the Change

Even though I loved Maple Tree, I had to change schools because my family moved to a new neighborhood. It was really hard saying goodbye to my friends, teachers, and that amazing playground. I'm going to miss the fun fair so much! But I also

knew that big changes can lead to new adventures. I was excited, if a little nervous, to see what my new school would be like. My New School

I now go to Valley Ridge Elementary, which is quite a bit larger than my old school with around 600 students. When I first stepped inside, I was struck by how modern and bright it looked. The hallways have huge windows that let in tons of natural light. There are colorful tiles, fun shapes, and student artworks decorating the walls everywhere you look. It felt vibrant and energizing in a way my old school didn't.

In my fourth grade class at Valley Ridge, there are 28 students. That's a lot more kids than I'm used to! But our teacher, Mr. Davis, is really good at getting everyone engaged and participating. He definitely has a stricter teaching style than Mrs. Robinson back at Maple Tree. We spend more time going over lessons from the textbooks. But Mr. Davis also likes to mix things up with educational videos, group projects, and using technology like tablets and smartboards.

While the older building at Maple Tree felt cozy, the brand new facilities at Valley Ridge are really quite impressive. We have a state-of-the-art computer lab, maker space stocked with art supplies and engineering tools, and even a video production

studio with green screen and professional editing equipment. How cool is that?

The cafeteria at my new school is ginormous compared to the tiny lunch room at Maple Tree. Instead of plopping down on hard benches, we get to sit at round tables in padded chairs. The food is also much better, in my opinion. They have a bigger kitchen so they're able to serve fresher meals with lots of healthy options like salad bars and vegetarian choices. Valley Ridge definitely wins for best cafeteria!

Of course, the playground isn't quite as awesome as the one at Maple Tree. It has basic stuff like swings, slides, and climbing structures. But no jungle gyms, rock walls, or fun fair attractions. I do miss those a lot. The cool thing about Valley Ridge's playground though is that it has painted a court games like hopscotch and four square. Chalk is also provided to create more games. Pretty neat!

So while there are things I loved about my old school, my new school has blown me away in plenty of other areas. I've only been at Valley Ridge for a couple months, but I already feel at home here. I've made new friends and my teachers have been so welcoming in helping me adjust. I may miss Maple Tree, yet I'm

excited for all the new adventures waiting at Valley Ridge. This chapter of my school life is off to an amazing start!

My Old School and My New School

I used to go to Oak Tree Elementary School. It was a nice school, but my new school is even better! Let me tell you all about both of my schools.

Oak Tree Elementary was a pretty big school with lots of kids. There were probably around 500 students from kindergarten through 5th grade. The building was kind of old, but they tried to keep it looking nice with fresh paint and clean hallways.

My favorite parts of Oak Tree were the playground and the library. The playground had these really tall sliding poles that were super fun to go down. There were also swings, a jungle gym, and plenty of space to run around during recess. The library was amazing! It had so many books, like thousands and thousands. My favorite corners were the story nook with little beanbags to sit on and the non-fiction section about animals.

One thing I didn't like about Oak Tree was the cafeteria food. The lunch ladies tried their best, but the pizza was kind of

rubbery and the veggies were always mushy. My mom started packing my lunch halfway through 3rd grade.

My teachers at Oak Tree were mostly pretty nice. I loved my 2nd grade teacher Mrs. Franklin. She was so fun and would let us have dance parties when we did well on our work. My 4th grade teacher Mr. Woodson could be kind of mean though. He'd yell a lot and gave way too much homework. I'm glad I don't have him anymore!

Oak Tree had after-school clubs like art, coding, and soccer. I did art club for a few years and made all sorts of cool projects. We made pinch pots out of clay, painted canvases, and created sculptures out of recycled materials. I wasn't a very good artist, but I had fun!

Okay, now let me tell you about my new school - Oakwood Elementary! Oakwood just opened last year and everything is so fresh and new. The building is huge, with three floors, a gigantic gym, and a state-of-the-art science lab. How cool is that?

My favorite part of Oakwood is definitely the science lab. We get to do experiments every week on things like chemical reactions, plant growth, and electricity. Once, we even got to watch a lamb be born over a video call with a farm! The lab has

all the latest technology like digital microscopes, 3D printers, and VR headsets. It's like being a real scientist.

Oakwood's playground isn't as big as my old school, but it makes up for that in quality. We have heavy-duty swings that don't break easily, climbing rocks to scramble across, and plexi-glass boxes to crawl through. There's a beautiful new jungle gym that looks like a castle with tons of platforms, bridges, and poles to explore. My favorite is the roller slide that's a giant spiral you can zoom down.

I've only been at Oakwood for a few months, but I already love my new teacher, Ms. Jenkins. She is so fun and energetic! She lets us use flexible seating options like bouncy balls, standing desks, and comfy floor pillows instead of hard chairs. Sometimes she even plays music while we work. We get to go on virtual field trips using VR headsets too. How cool is that? The cafeteria at Oakwood is worlds better than Oak Tree. The food is made fresh daily with lots of healthy, delicious options. They have things like build-your-own salad bars, made-to-order pasta stations, and ethnic cuisine samplers. The pizza is hand-tossed with freshly made dough and the vegetables are crisp and flavorful. They even have kid-friendly

dishes like chicken nuggets and tater tots, but they're baked instead of fried. Yum!

One downside of Oakwood is that it doesn't have as many after-school clubs yet since it's so new. There's soccer, which I joined, and a few others like art and chess. Hopefully they add more options like coding, robotics, and music soon. I miss those from Oak Tree.

Overall, while I have good memories of Oak Tree Elementary, I'm super excited to be at Oakwood. The building is incredible, the teachers are top-notch, and I'm learning so much, especially in science and technology. My friends all agree - Oakwood is the best school ever! I feel really lucky to go there.
