摘要： The present invention provides a device and method for exposing a person toultraviolet radiation in tanning wavelengths which is emitted from a discharge lamp (50)having a plurality of grooves (62) formed in its outer periphery along a helical path. Thedischarge lamp includes, inter alia, an elongated vitreous tube (52), first and secondelectrode assemblies and a coating on the interior of the tube. The coating (56) is appliedon an interior of the tube along the entire length (L1) for emitting ultraviolet radiation intanning wavelengths when a voltage is applied across the first and second electrodes. Ina first representative embodiment, the plurality of grooves are interconnected and thehelical path is continuous. Alternatively, the plurality of grooves can be axially offset andthe helical path can be discontinuous.
